Alberto y Selena

Hello. My name is Shelli Browning. I’m from Orlando, Florida. I started ballroom dancing in 2001; I had always wanted to learn to do the Argentine Tango and I was so happy to learn that Alberto Hoyos was going to be offering group classes, so I learned as much as I could. I had heard Alberto’s name in Orlando for many years – since I had been ballroom dancing – and I decided to come out for the group classes and immediately I felt accepted – even though I was from a different (dance) genre. I had so much fun in the group classes that I started taking private lessons. And to make a long story short, I have been dancing now for about two years. I feel very confident in going to the local Argentine Tango dances and dancing the dance that I’ve been shown until I dance the dance of my own, and I’ve had more fun in these classes than I ever imagined. Dance is so much more than steps on a floor – it’s personal; it’s emotional; it’s healthy; it’s spiritual; it’s everything. So much more than I ever thought and I would encourage anybody who just wants to try it. You know, you say “I don’t want to go to classes because I don’t know how to dance” … Nobody does at first. So if you are seeing this message, find a group class, come meet Alberto. You are going to love him – he’s a fabulous teacher. You will also meet his wife Selena who is also a fabulous teacher and just trust me. You are going to love this. 

Hi. I’m Nikki Brandon Imes and I enrolled my son, Brandon Imes, into Alberto and Selena’s summer camp – dance summer camp – and absolutely a difference. My son went from not talking, not outgoing to coming home … he says, “Mom, my face hurts.” And I said, “Oh my gosh, Son, what’s wrong?” He goes, “I’ve smiled so much in the two hours, I cannot believe it.” He is coming home and it’s like Dirty Dancing where you saw Jennifer just dancing around. He’s up in the hallways dancing. I cannot believe…  He is coming home, he is…at home, he was a little bit on the disrespectful side. He was coming home; I would ask him to do something and before he would say, “You have two legs, you know. You do it.” He comes home (now) – “With my pleasure, Mom.” Absolutely night and day for this child. I am so excited for him to continue on and he wants to continue on. It is the best program I have ever enrolled him in. Ever. He is 11 years old and at first he didn’t want to do it because it’s not the “boy” thing and he got enrolled and he is excited every single day to dance. It’s amazing. It’s absolutely amazing what Mr. Hoyos has done for this boy.

Hi, I’m Ted from Clermont and I’ve been coming here, dancing with Alberto for about six weeks now and it has just been such a blessing. You know, all day long with the work and stresses of life, I really, really look forward to my time here because you just come and let go. Alberto makes it so easy and he’s just so hospitable and it’s just a wonderful, wonderful time. I invite everyone to come down here and you’ll see what I mean. You don’t learn how to do steps; you really truly learn how to dance. It’s just been terrific. Come on down.

My name is Gordon and this is my wife Luz, and we have been dancing ballroom for several years and we started taking tango with another teacher but we were learning just steps. And we have been taking the Argentine Tango with Alberto now for about three or four months and there’s a real difference. We’re not just learning steps; we are learning how to dance. My wife is going to tell you about the workshop that we just took… We just took a workshop about the connection and we learn how to dance really together, and since that I really feel that I’m the follower because before, I didn’t want…I didn’t know how to follow my husband, and I’m very excited about that. I really recommend that workshop for everybody. {Gordon}: Before, we were dancing like this…but now, we’re dancing like this. We have a real connection, thanks to Alberto and Selena.

Hello. My name is Roger Rees and this is my wife Deborah and we have been dancing with Alberto for about five years and we’ve also done this as a family with our children. We have had the joy of being able to do that as a family and the benefits of that. And the one thing we enjoy about learning with Alberto is that the things that we learn are more than just steps. We learn the method is that we dance our own dance and I think that’s the key here is that we dance the dance of our own with what he has taught us and so it’s not a matter of memorizing things as much as it is something that comes from our heart. We have enjoyed taking classes with Alberto and our children have taken classes, and it has been a very wonderful and fun experience for us and it helps to even increase our brain cells and keep us young and fit. Hi, my name is Andrea and I’ve been taking lessons with Alberto since  (I don’t even remember) 2000…2001. I was born in Argentina; I live in Orlando. Argentine Tango has been a blessing in my life. Alberto is not only (an) incredible professional dancer, (he) is also an amazing human being that brings to the tango dance passion, a sense of wellness and being, a wholeness, completion and it’s just I have no words to describe how amazing it has been and what a blessing tango has been in my life. Hi. My name is Sebastian Tamayo and I just recently went to the Unity of Dance Festival and I took a class with Alberto Hoyos – tango, Argentine Tango – and the class, honestly, was one of the best classes I’ve ever taken in my life. It was really deep. I learned more in a couple hours than I’ve learned in a long time, and things not just about dance, but things I know I’ll take for the future and just things about myself and … it was a great class and I learned things like in tango, I can dance tango now. I can do a little stuff hopefully at a milonga now. I recommend the class to anyone. It’s honestly a great class, he’s a great instructor, great teacher and he’s an awesome person, too. So I recommend it for anyone.

Hi. My name is Jesse Kerner and I recently took a course at Unity of Dance with Alberto Hoyos. One thing about the tango course he offered is it doesn’t teach you just moves, but it teaches you the concepts that you can apply to bachata, salsa, merengue. He’s a real conceptual teacher and he won’t only teach you things you can apply in tango, but anything you learn there, you can apply to any form of dance. I recommend him highly. You can attend his newly opening studio in Orlando; I highly recommend that. If you could take private lessons, that would be even better. I hope to do so myself in the future.

My experience here has been great; I have been dancing with him about a year now. What I love about dancing and the way that he teaches the lesson of dance is he doesn’t just teach you about dancing; he teaches you about the life that comes with dancing, and how dance can help you make a better life for you. Hello. My name is Asif Hussain and I am a AVA therapist that works with children with autism and other developmental disabilities. I came to some of [Alberto’s] classes a couple of times with one of my clients. Originally, they just brought me because they thought I was going to go and have to dance with the kid because he doesn’t make human contact or eye contact or anything, but the classes here have been really phenomenal. I have been very blown away. The kids that I particularly work with, they’re make eye contact. They’re making human contact which, you know, for children with autism is a really big thing. And they’re having fun, which is really a great thing. Personally, I can’t think of anything that’s more social than dancing. I was very, very impressed. The coach here makes sure that they are – the kids are looking each other in the eye, they are being respectful towards one another, which is important qualities and not only for children with developmental disabilities but regular children as well. I absolutely will recommend if you … I would send all of my clients here if I could, evidentially. 

My name is Christian Quillones. I attended the Unity of Dance Festival and I took tango classes with Alberto Hoyos, and it was a truly, truly amazing experience. He taught us more than just moves; he conceptually taught us to dance with the heart. It was very inspiring and it makes me want to be a better dancer. Also, it entices me and it makes me enthusiastic to learn tango. He’s very patient, understanding…he knows what he’s talking about and it’s very enjoyable to be in his class. So I definitely recommend it to whoever would be interested in doing tango…the Argentine Tango. And go to a milonga. I’m very excited to go to my first one.

Hi, my name is Josie. I’ve been dancing for about 10 years. And for the first five years, I danced with one partner and I learned a lot…I learned a lot of steps, and I love to dance. But what I was lacking was I didn’t feel comfortable with dancing with other partners. So when I joined Alberto’s classes, he had a unique form of changing partners around and I started dancing with other people, getting to know how they danced, and feeling more comfortable. So now when I go out to dance and someone asks me to dance, of course I accept and after the dance, I usually get from them “You’re a good follower.” And to me they’re telling me I am a good dancer, so I really enjoy Alberto’s classes. He’s taught me a lot and we have a lot of fun. So come join us.
